The law will go into effect on July 1, 2017. If the potential exists to delay any major equipment or maintenance expenditures, please consider doing so.
The GRMCA is currently preparing guidance for the ready mix industry on how to claim your tax exemption and distribute it amongst ready mix producers across the state. If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to contact Jimmy Cotty or Nadia Groome with the GRMCA.

TESTING LAB ACCOUNTABILITY & BUILDING CODE AMENDMENTS
From Left to Right: Vance Robinson (Ready Mix USA), Jimmy Cotty (GRMCA), Larry Lorren (Wayne Davis Concrete)
A task force meets to review building code amendment and make recommendations to the Georgia State Codes Advisory Committee.
On Wednesday, May 10th, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs State Code Advisory Committee held a subcommittee hearing on proposed amendments to the International Building Code. GRMCA has proposed several amendments to the IBC that would require stricter certifications requirements for technicians who are sampling and testing concrete in the field as well as testing concrete strengths in the lab.
The amendments were passed by the subcommittee and will be reviewed by the full Georgia State Codes Advisory Committee in June. The amendments will then receive a public hearing in September prior to a full vote of the Board of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in November.
GRMCA Executive Director Jimmy Cotty was joined by Vance Robinson with Ready Mix USA and Larry Lorren with Wayne Davis Concrete in presenting and testifying on the necessity for testing technician certifications.
We will have more on this as it develops but this will be the firt step in bringing some additional accountability to concrete testing in the field.
