Ben Hill Ready Mix Founder, Charlie Rice, Passes Away at Age 78

The founder of Ben Hill Ready Mix, Charlie Rice, passed away March 2nd, 2021 at the age of 78.

Charlie Rice worked with Lehigh Cement and Rinker Materials in Florida until he came to Atlanta in 1975. There, he joined the newly formed company Allied Ready Mix as their plants superintendent. He was with Allied until 1978 when he and M.H. Donald purchased a plant and went into business as Ben Hill Ready Mix. Ben Hill ultimately grew to 6 plants when they were purchase by Thomas Concrete in 1985.

After Ben Hill Ready Mix, he bought into a partnership with a small ready mix company called F&H Ready Mix. There he successfully built the business opening up two plants until it was sold to a competitor. Later opened up a new business dealing with used block plant equipment call UNC Equipment until his retirement.

Charlie was an active member and supporter of the Georgia Concrete and Products Association from 1978 until 1985 with Ben Hill.

Services will be held March 6, 2021 at Scot Ward Green Meadows Chapel 699 American Legion Rd. in Conyers, GA. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm followed by a brief memorial about Charlie's life.
